LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) –Wilfred Ndidi, the Super Eagles midfielder, emphasizes the importance of Nigeria securing a spot in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Nigeria missed out on the previous edition of the World Cup held in Qatar, losing to their long-standing rivals, the Black Stars of Ghana, in the playoffs.
With qualification for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations already assured, Ndidi expressed the team’s determination to earn a place in the 2026 World Cup finals.
Ndidi stated to reporters, “This victory (against Sao Tome and Principe) is significant for us. It serves as a morale boost as we prepare for the World Cup qualifiers.”

He acknowledged the disappointment of not participating in the last World Cup in Qatar and the fans’ frustration, emphasizing the team’s commitment to not let them down again.
Ndidi concluded, “We must continue to work hard as a team, and hopefully, the results will be in our favour.”
The Super Eagles share a group with Lesotho, South Africa, the Benin Republic, Rwanda, and Zimbabwe.
Their first fixture will be against Lesotho, which they will host on 13 November.
