LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – In Inter Miami’s congratulatory video celebrating Lionel Messi’s historic 8th Ballon d’Or win, they featured the wrong trophy, causing some embarrassment for the MLS club.
The trophy shown in the clip was the FIFA Ballon d’Or, which has not been used since 2015 when the Ballon d’Or and the FIFA World Player of the Year merged to become one award.

Despite the mistake, the video was a classy gesture of congratulations from Inter Miami to Messi, highlighting the significance of his achievement.
To add to the memorable moment, Inter Miami co-owner and former England star David Beckham was the special guest who presented Messi with the trophy on stage during the ceremony.
Messi, who has now won the Ballon d’Or for the eighth time, will undoubtedly cherish this record-breaking achievement as he continues his preparations with Inter Miami for the upcoming 2024 season.
