LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) Newcastle United have officially addressed the ongoing investigation surrounding Sandro Tonali’s alleged involvement in illegal betting activities.

The Premier League club issued a statement expressing their commitment to cooperating with relevant authorities and offering full support to the player and his family throughout the investigation.

The statement read: “Newcastle United can confirm that Sandro Tonali is subject to investigation by the Italian Prosecutor’s Office and Italian Football Federation (FIGC) in relation to illegal betting activity.

Sandro is fully engaging with the investigation and will continue to cooperate with all relevant authorities.

He and his family will continue to receive the club’s full support, and due to this ongoing process, Sandro and Newcastle United are unable to offer further comment at this time.”

This response from the club acknowledges the seriousness of the situation and reflects their willingness to collaborate with legal and regulatory bodies in the ongoing investigation.

Sandro Tonali, who was sent home from the Italy national team along with Nicolo Zaniolo after their questioning by police, has been described as a gambling addict by his agent.

The revelations that Tonali had placed bets on Milan matches during his time with AC Milan, even if not directly involved in those games, could potentially result in a ban of up to three years from football-related activities.

Additionally, the investigation has also implicated Juventus starlet Nicolo Fagioli, who has admitted to violating betting rules in Italy.

Fagioli received a seven-month ban and was mandated to attend therapy sessions as part of his disciplinary action.

The developments surrounding both players have raised concerns about illegal gambling activities within the football community and have led to serious consequences for those involved.
