LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – UEFA confirmed the host countries for two upcoming European Championships.
The 2028 European Championship will take place across ten venues in the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland.
This decision came after the UK and Ireland withdrew their pursuit of hosting the 2030 World Cup, which was eventually awarded to Spain, Portugal, and Morocco by FIFA.
Key venues for Euro 2028 include Cardiff’s Principality Stadium, which is expected to host the tournament opener, and Wembley Stadium in London, where the final match will be played.

Other venues in the UK and Ireland include Glasgow’s Hampden Park, Dublin’s Aviva Stadium, Belfast’s Casement Park, Everton’s Bramley-Moore Dock, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Etihad Stadium, St. James Park, and Villa Park.
Turkey initially bid to host both Euro 2028 and Euro 2032 but withdrew from the former after their 2032 bid received UEFA’s ratification. The host countries for Euro 2032 will be Italy and Turkey.
A potential list of 20 stadiums has been drawn up for Euro 2032, with a final selection of 10 stadiums set to be made before October 2026.
These selected venues will be divided equally between Italy and Turkey.
While Turkey has hosted the UEFA Champions League final in 2023, it has never hosted a major international tournament like the European Championship.
In contrast, Italy has a history of hosting the Euro Championship, with previous tournaments held in 1968 and 1980.
Additionally, the Stadio Olimpico in Rome was selected as a venue for Euro 2020.
These decisions mark significant milestones for both countries, and football fans can look forward to thrilling tournaments in the coming years as the European Championships continue to grow and evolve.
