LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – Novak Djokovic, who made history by clinching his 24th Grand Slam title at the 2023 US Open with a remarkable 6-3, 7-6(5), 6-3 victory over Daniil Medvedev, chose to kick off his celebration by sharing a special moment with his daughter Tara and the rest of his family.
Djokovic is set to return to the position of World No. 1 on Monday, 11 September, after securing his fourth title at Flushing Meadows and his third Grand Slam victory this year, having already triumphed at the Australian Open and the French Open.
In a heartwarming post-match scene at Arthur Ashe Stadium, an emotional Djokovic hurried to embrace his daughter amidst the jubilation.
“Novak Djokovic hugs his daughter after claiming his 24th Grand Slam at the US Open. It’s an emotional night for a true legend,” noted The Tennis Letter.
While his parents, wife Jelena, and son Stefan were visible in the player’s box, Tara watched from the stands.

The iconic player was met with scenes of pure joy as he reunited with the rest of his family and coaching team.
The 36-year-old athlete also paid tribute to the late American basketball legend Kobe Bryant, who tragically lost his life in a helicopter crash in January 2020. Djokovic donned a Black Mamba No. 24 jersey in honour of Bryant.
Following Sunday’s victory, Novak Djokovic has surged ahead in the Grand Slam race. His archrival, Rafael Nadal, holds 22 Major titles, while Swiss maestro Roger Federer has 20.
Djokovic has also equalled Margaret Court’s record of 24 Grand Slam titles with his triumph in New York, becoming the oldest US Open champion in the Open era at the age of 36.
Notably, Djokovic was unable to enter the US last year due to vaccination restrictions, causing him to miss the 2022 edition of the New York Major.
