LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – Manchester United has received a stern warning concerning Antony’s first-team role amid allegations of domestic violence against him, as Women’s Aid emphasizes the serious consequences of neglecting such allegations.
Antony is currently facing allegations of physically assaulting his ex-girlfriend, Gabriela Cavallin, which resulted in his removal from the Brazil national squad.
Greater Manchester Police are actively investigating the allegations of an attack and threats made by Antony against Cavallin in a hotel room.
While Antony has denied these allegations, Manchester United has not yet issued a statement on the matter, and he remains eligible for selection.
Women’s Aid has issued a statement directed at top football clubs, stressing the importance of having comprehensive policies and procedures in place to address domestic abuse allegations involving their players.

The statement reads, “Domestic abuse is a prevalent issue in our society, and all employers, including football clubs, must establish clear policies and procedures for handling allegations against their employees.
“When the alleged perpetrator is a high-profile footballer, it sends a troubling message to both football fans and society at large when these allegations are not taken seriously by the club.”
The statement continues, “Safeguarding is paramount in such cases, ensuring the safety of all parties involved while the legal process unfolds.“
Manchester United has previously faced criticism for its handling of the Mason Greenwood legal case.
The club initially announced that Greenwood would be departing following a six-month internal investigation into charges of sexual assault and domestic violence against the striker.
However, after facing significant backlash from fans, the club reversed its decision and allowed Greenwood to complete a loan move to La Liga side Getafe.
