The Nigerian Medical Association, Lagos State chapter, has directed all the doctors working in the three government hospitals on the Lagos Island to begin an indefinite strike over the death of its colleague, Dr. Vwaere Diaso. The NMA also declared a five-day mourning period in the state and asked doctors in the other government-owned hospitals to scale down activities as a mark of respect for the dead colleague. Nigerians who were protesting the impact of fuel subsidy removal have reportedly pulled down the gate of the National Assembly complex in Abuja. Earlier, the protesters led by the leaders of the Organized Labour, Joe Ajaero of the Nigeria Labour Congress and Festus Osifo of the Trade Union Congress asked security operatives stationed at the legislative building to open the gate to allow the angry workers to express their displeasure. House officers at the General Hospital, Odan, Lagos Island, on Wednesday took to the premises to protest the tragic death of a female colleague, Doctor Vwaere Diaso, who fell to her death on Tuesday, 1 August.
