The Nigerian Medical Association, Lagos State chapter, has directed all the doctors working in the three government hospitals on the Lagos Island to begin an indefinite strike over the death of its colleague, Dr. Vwaere Diaso. The NMA also declared a five-day mourning period in the state and asked doctors in the other government-owned hospitals to scale down activities as a mark of respect for the dead colleague. Nigerians who were protesting the impact of fuel subsidy removal have reportedly pulled down the gate of the National Assembly complex in Abuja. Earlier, the protesters led by the leaders of the Organized Labour, Joe Ajaero of the Nigeria Labour Congress and Festus Osifo of the Trade Union Congress asked security operatives stationed at the legislative building to open the gate to allow the angry workers to express their displeasure. House officers at the General Hospital, Odan, Lagos Island, on Wednesday took to the premises to protest the tragic death of a female colleague, Doctor Vwaere Diaso, who fell to her death on Tuesday, 1 August. According to multiple reports, Dr. Vwaere Diaso, died at the General Hospital after an elevator she took crashed. It was gathered that the hospital elevator that killed the late Diaso crashed from the 10th floor to the ground floor. The President of the World Bank Group, Ajay Banga, is expected to visit Nigeria for three days, starting from Wednesday, 3 August, 2023, after a two-day visit to Ethiopia. This was according to a press release on Tuesday by the World Bank’s Senior External Affairs Officer for Nigeria, Mansir Nasir. The Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS, has blamed increased cases of criminal activities across the country on illegal immigrants. Kwara State Comptroller of NIS, Aminu Shamsuddin, stated this during an interactive session with journalists on Tuesday, at the 60th anniversary celebration of the Service. The Presidential Election Petition Court, PEPC, sitting in Abuja, on Tuesday, reserved its judgement on the petition that a former Vice President and presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, filed to nullify President Bola Tinubu’s election.
