The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has kicked off nationwide protests over the removal of petrol subsidy amid heavy security presence at the Ikeja under-bridge in Lagos.
Recall the organized labour said the palliatives rolled out by the President in his nationwide broadcast on Monday night were very insignificant to cushion the effect of the suffering in the country.
The NLC specifically said it was going ahead with the proposed national protest on Wednesday.
And true to its words, the labour union stormed the streets in large numbers to kick off a protest which they believe will be organized across the country.
With their placards and songs of solidarity, they trekked across the State capital in a bid to grind activities and ensure the Federal Government listened to their demands which included a reduction in the price of fuel.

Briefing State House correspondents at the end of the Presidential Steering Committee on Palliatives held at the State House, Abuja, on Tuesday evening, the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, appealed to organized labour to suspend the planned protest.
He said: “We have laid out the plans, the interventions of Mr President, as you all heard in his broadcast yesterday (Monday), we made it clear that this was just Mr President’s initial rollout and interventions and that conversations will be ongoing as we go along.”
But the appeal, which the labour union said was not dissimilar to the palliatives measure rolled out by Mr President earlier, was not enough to stop the unionists from going ahead with the industrial action.
