House officers at the General Hospital, Odan, Lagos Island, on Wednesday took to the premises to protest the tragic death of a female colleague, Doctor Vwaere Diaso, who fell to her death on Tuesday, 1 August.
According to multiple reports, Dr. Vwaere Diaso, died at the General Hospital after an elevator she took crashed.
It was gathered that the hospital elevator that killed the late Diaso crashed from the 10th floor to the ground floor.
It was also gathered that the late doctor was rushed to the emergency ward of the hospital for treatment but eventually died.
A colleague of Diaso, who craved anonymity, told Punch correspondent that the elevator had malfunctioned several times before now.
āOn multiple occasions, the elevator has stopped while we were inside. And thereās no maintenance,ā he said.
He stated further that the hospital management was aware of the poor state of the elevator but failed to act.

āWe report every time. The elevator is supposed to carry 630kg maximum, thatās eight people.ā
He stated that since the elevator started malfunctioning, the staff of the hospital started reducing the number of people in it every time to avoid congestion.
āOnce you open the elevator and see two people already, you just have to wait for the next batch.ā
āIt was faulty and they knew about it. Thatās why weāre not going to take this,ā he stated.
He disclosed further that the late Diaso had just two weeks left to the completion of her housemanship at the hospital, noting that she was a āvery diligent house officer.ā
āShe was very hardworking,ā he said.
Following her tragic death, colleagues embarked on a protest to demand justice.
In a video trending on Twitter, House officers could be seen marching outside the hospital building with placards that carry messages such as: āIt could have been me and āThe system is rigged against young doctors,ā while they chanted: āAll we are saying, give us justice.ā
The deceased who graduated February last year, was said to be preparing for the completion of her housemanship in two weeks when the tragic incident happened.
