Nigerians who were protesting the impact of fuel subsidy removal have reportedly pulled down the gate of the National Assembly complex in Abuja.
Earlier, the protesters led by the leaders of the Organized Labour, Joe Ajaero of the Nigeria Labour Congress and Festus Osifo of the Trade Union Congress asked security operatives stationed at the legislative building to open the gate to allow the angry workers to express their displeasure.
Following the failure of the security officials to adhere, angry protesters pulled down the gate and thronged into the assembly complex to vent their anger.

Meanwhile, in Kano, NLC protest march began at the Murtala Mohammed Library, Ahmadu Bello Way, and terminated at the State Government House, where the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Baffa Bichi, received the protesters.
The protesters displayed placards, some of which read: “Government should not listen to IMF and World Bank demands”, “No to increment in University fees”, “Minimum wage should be N200,000″, Government must restore fuel subsidy, among others.
The organized labour, led by the State NLC Chairman, Comrade Kabiru Inuwa, presented a letter to the SSG for onward delivery to President Bola Tinubu.
Also, the organized labour vehemently opposed the palliative measures President Bola Tinubu rolled out towards cushioning the effect of the fuel subsidy removal.
Also, in Osun State, different labour groups held separate protests against the removal of subsidy on petrol in Osogbo, the state capital.

The division was said to be a result of the inability of the Nigeria Labour Congress in the state to elect state executives.
A group loyal to the caretaker chairman of the NLC in the state had assembled at Freedom Park Osogbo, while members of Trade Union Congress led by Adebowale Adekola, had assembled at Centre for Black Culture and International Understanding, Osogbo.
Also, members of the Osun Civil Societies Coalition joined by members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities and National Union of Electricity Employees, held another protest march through major streets in Osogbo.
Speaking after joining the NLC group at Freedom Park, Osogbo, the Chairman of Osun CSOs, Waheed Lawal, said “Everyone must come out to stop the move to further impoverished Nigerians.
“If not for the agitations, the Federal Government would have increased electricity tariff. Nigerians must come out to join this protest.”
