LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – Chelsea may allegedly encounter repercussions from the Premier League due to payments made during Roman Abramovich’s tenure, potentially breaching Financial Fair Play regulations.
A Guardian investigation unearthed substantial payments, totaling “tens of millions of pounds,” channeled through Abramovich’s offshore entities over a decade.
Reportedly, beneficiaries include Eden Hazard’s agent and an associate linked to Antonio Conte’s 2017 Premier League win, alongside dealings involving transfers of players like Willian and Samuel Eto’o.
Following the discovery of incomplete financial records related to Abramovich’s era, Chelsea’s new owners voluntarily provided files, resulting in a UEFA fine of £8.6 million ($10.7 million).

However, if these payments are found to violate football regulations like FFP, the Premier League may impose severe penalties, possibly including a points deduction.
Despite Chelsea’s extensive success under Abramovich, winning 18 major trophies in a 19-year span, the ongoing Premier League investigation could significantly impact the club’s future.
The inquiry continues, requiring confirmation of FFP breaches before determining potential punishments.
As Chelsea prepares to face injury-plagued Newcastle on November 25 after the international break, their focus remains on accumulating points amidst looming uncertainties.
