LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – Erling Haaland, Manchester City’s prolific striker, has given fans a glimpse of a new goal celebration following his Gerd Muller trophy win at the Ballon d’Or awards.
The Gerd Muller trophy is awarded to the highest-scoring male player of the season, and Haaland received it for his impressive 56 goals during the 2022/23 season, split between Manchester City and the Norwegian national team.
During the Ballon d’Or ceremony, which featured former Chelsea striker Didier Drogba as the host, Drogba asked the 23-year-old Haaland if he had plans for a new celebration after receiving the prestigious award.

Drogba suggested that Haaland could either emulate Drogba’s iconic celebration or adopt the clenched fist goal reaction that Gary Lineker, the award’s presenter for the evening, used during his playing career.
In response to Drogba’s proposal, Haaland humorously stated, “We will see at the next goal. I celebrate in the moment, so I will think of both of you (Lineker and Drogba) when I score my next goal, and then I will decide.”
Haaland has made an incredible impact at Manchester City and played a pivotal role in their unprecedented success during the previous season.
He has already notched up 13 goals in the current season, and if he continues to perform at this level, he has the potential to be recognized as one of the greatest strikers of all time.
This could result in a plethora of trophies and accolades coming his way.
Haaland’s next outing with Manchester City is scheduled for Saturday, where they will face Bournemouth in a Premier League match.
Fans will eagerly await any new goal celebration he chooses to unveil.
