Peseiro made it clear that the decision to accept a reduction in his salary was influenced by his players’ desire to win the 2023 AFCON.
“The players pushed me to stay because they believe we can win the AFCON,” he revealed in an interview with Sky Sports.
“We can win it. The players know it. They come with the same energy, the same belief, to fight for the Super Eagles.”
He emphasized the importance of being at their best to secure victory in the AFCON, acknowledging that they will face tough competition from other strong African teams, including Senegal, Tunisia, Morocco, Egypt, Ghana, and Ivory Coast.
Despite the challenges, Peseiro remains optimistic about their chances, stating, “The main goal is to win the AFCON. We will need to be at our maximum because we know that there is good opposition. But we believe we can do it. I believe. And the players believe.”
Peseiro’s commitment to lead the Super Eagles, coupled with the players’ determination, has set high hopes for the team’s performance at the upcoming AFCON tournament.
The new contract extension solidifies his position as the head coach, and he is determined to guide the team to success on the continental stage.
