LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) Cristiano Ronaldo has set an ambitious career goal of scoring 1,000 career goals after a match-winning brace against Slovakia, which secured Portugal’s spot in Euro 2024.
With a record 125 international goals and a staggering 857 career goals to his name, Ronaldo, despite being 38, shows no signs of slowing down.
The challenge to reach 1,000 goals began when Jorge Nuno Pinto, the president of FC Porto, bet Ronaldo that he could reach this milestone, a bet that the forward immediately accepted.
Ronaldo acknowledges that it will be difficult but believes it’s about his mindset and motivation.

He sees it as a series of small steps and aims to reach 900 before setting his sights on 1,000.
Ronaldo has also expressed his desire to sign an extension with Al-Nassr, which would keep him in Saudi Arabia until 2027.
This suggests that the five-time Ballon d’Or winner envisions representing Portugal not only in the European Cup next summer but also in the 2026 World Cup, co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Ronaldo is in incredible form for Al-Nassr this season, having scored 11 goals in as many matches.
If he maintains this scoring pace, reaching the 1,000-goal target may not be out of reach.
Next, Ronaldo will travel to Bosnia for their next Euro 2024 qualifier on October 16, although it remains to be seen if he will feature, as Portugal has already secured a spot in the continental tournament.
