Former Chelsea star Mikel Obi believes he deserved the Man of the Match award in the 2012 UEFA Champions League final against Bayern Munich.
Despite not receiving the accolade, Mikel played a crucial role in the match, which Chelsea ultimately won in a penalty shootout.
During his time at Chelsea from 2006 to 2017, Mikel made 372 appearances and earned numerous major honours.
In the 2012 final, Bayern took the lead, but Chelsea’s Didier Drogba equalized, forcing the game into extra time. Ultimately, Chelsea triumphed in the shootout, securing their first Champions League title and making history as the first London club to do so.

Mikel continued to contribute to Chelsea’s success for another four and a half years before leaving in January 2017.
Recently, he reunited with fellow 2012 heroes for a Legends match, where he put up an outstanding performance.
Reflecting on his career, Mikel singled out the Champions League final against Bayern Munich as his standout game, emphasizing his belief that he should have been awarded Man of the Match.
Despite the accolade going to Drogba, Mikel’s contribution was instrumental in securing the victory for Chelsea.
Mikel also played a significant role in Nigeria’s successes, including winning the Africa Cup of Nations in 2013 and securing a Bronze medal at the 2016 Olympics in Rio.
