LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) –Jenni Hermoso was warmly welcomed back to club football at Pachuca just hours after Luis Rubiales resigned as the Spanish FA president.
Their stories became intertwined following a controversial incident at the 2023 Women’s World Cup final. Rubiales sparked controversy by kissing Hermoso on the lips at the end of Spain’s historic 1-0 win over England.
After facing numerous complaints and calls to step down from his role, Rubiales eventually succumbed to the pressure and agreed to resign from his post at the RFEF.
Hermoso played for her Mexican club shortly after the news of Rubiales’ resignation broke.

Pachuca fans treated her like a returning hero, unveiling a giant tifo at Hidalgo Stadium featuring her playing for both Spain and the Mexican outfit.
She received applause as she took the field in her first game since becoming a world champion, and a framed No. 10 jersey was presented to her.
Pachuca won the match 2-1 against UNAM, allowing Hermoso to refocus on her on-field performance.
Rubiales is no longer involved with the Spanish national team, as FIFA initially banned him from all football-related activities.
However, he has consistently maintained that his actions were not inappropriate.
In an interview with Piers Morgan upon his resignation, Rubiales stated, “I spoke with my daughters, and they understand that this is not about me.
“They advised me to focus on my dignity and my life. In this situation, that’s what I must do.
Some close friends told me, “Luis, you must focus on your dignity and continue with your life because otherwise, you will harm the people you love and the sport you love.“
