LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – Ligue 1 club Lorient has acquired former Manchester City defender Benjamin Mendy as a free agent following his acquittal for rape
After a retrial earlier this month, Mendy was exonerated of one count of rape and one count of attempted rape.
At his original trial in January, he had already been found not guilty of all six charges of rape.
The French club Lorient has already signed the left-back, who was a free agent after being released by Manchester City.
The Ligue 1 team has officially announced that the full-back has signed a deal that runs until 2025.

Mendy played for City before the charges were public, but the team terminated him when his contract expired.
Over the course of his 75 appearances for the team, he captured four Premier League championships.
Mendy also competed for France in the 2018 World Cup team.
He hasn’t touched a football since playing for City in a 1-0 loss to Tottenham in August of 2021.
Before arriving at the Etihad Stadium, the 29-year-old played football in France for Marseille, Le Havre, and Monaco.
