LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)-Yaya Toure has disclosed that he pleaded with Manchester City to sign Sadio Mane while the Senegalese striker was thriving at Southampton.
Eventually, Mane was able to leave St. Mary’s for a sizable sum of money, but the 2016 agreement took him to Anfield and Liverpool instead of the Etihad Stadium.
With the Reds, the tenacious winger would go on to win the Champions League and Premier League.
If City had followed the counsel of Ivorian superstar Toure when he was at the top of his game, those attributes might have worked in their favor.
According to city legend Toure on BBC Match of the Day Africa: “I’ve always yearned to play with Mane.
“I had the utmost respect for him when he was playing for Southampton while I was at City, and I had been pleading with some of my colleagues to simply sign him. But ultimately, it didn’t happen”.

Following that, Klopp had the vision to capture him, and now look at what he accomplished for Liverpool; he was magnificent. I enjoy him as a player, too.
During his stay on Merseyside, Mane scored 120 goals in 269 games for Liverpool and won six major awards.
The 2022–23 Treble winners have experienced a dynasty of historically successful success, and City survived excellently without him. Toure assisted in laying the groundwork for them to do so.
Mane left English football in the summer of 2022 when he joined Bayern Munich.
However, after a tumultuous first season with the Bundesliga champions and at the age of 31, there have been rumors about a possible return to the Premier League.
