ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- The Lagos State Police Command says its has commenced investigations into the attack on the campaign train of Olajide Adediran, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in the State.
This was made known by the Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, in his verified Twitter account @BenHundeyin on Monday.
The campaign train of Adediran, governorship candidate of the PDP in Lagos, was attacked by thugs, as “several” persons on the convoy were injured, including a journalist.
According to a statement by Hakeem Amode, the PDP chairman in the state, the attack on Adediran, who is popularly known as Jandor, occurred at the Ikoga junction area of Badagry LGA on Sunday.
“The campaign train of the PDP candidate was attacked today (Sunday) while returning from visitation to members of the party at the Ikoga Junction area of Badagry local government by All Progressives Congress sponsored thugs,” the statement reads.
“The attack led to injury of several members of Jandor’s entourage and pressmen. As of the time of this press statement, one of the news reporters is in critical condition in an undisclosed hospital while those injured are been treated.
“The thugs that attacked the campaign train were shouting APC while shooting guns and using dangerous weapons.
“You will recall that our party raised concern over the threat to use APC-sponsored thugs to attack the campaign programmes of our gubernatorial candidate Abdul-Azeez Olajide Adediran-Jandor recently.”
SP Hundeyin has since explained that the PDP campaign train was attacked because it made an unplanned visit to different location outside its coverage.
According to him: “The campaign train made an unscheduled visit to a totally different and undisclosed location on their way back without commensurate notification to the police.
“The command is awaiting from the victims a complaint/statement that would assist in the ongoing investigation.
“The assurance is hereby given that no stone will be left unturned to arrest and prosecute the attackers.”
