ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- The Bayelsa State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal has postponed its verdict in a petition filed by the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Timipre Sylva, contesting the victory of Douye Diri from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the Governor of the state.
The Tribunal Chairman, Justice Adekunle Adeleye, announced that the judgement would be delivered within the statutorily allowed 180 days.

During Monday’s proceedings, all parties presented their written arguments, either urging the court to uphold the petition due to election irregularities or asserting that the APC lacked substantial evidence.
Diri, who assumed office in 2020, won the November 2023 governorship poll, securing a second term with 175,196 votes, while Sylva garnered 110,108 votes.
However, the Minister of State for Petroleum has contested the election outcome in court.
