LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – Cole Palmer expressed his regret to Mauricio Pochettino after inadvertently tossing a bottle at the Chelsea manager during Chelsea’s 2-2 draw with Arsenal at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea squandered a two-goal lead in their recent London derby against Arsenal, with Leandro Trossard netting a dramatic equalizer for the visitors just six minutes from time.
Palmer, who had scored the opening goal from the penalty spot, was in the process of grabbing a drink when the equalizer occurred and accidentally hit Pochettino with the bottle when he discarded it.
The 21-year-old promptly apologized to his manager and humorously pondered the possibility of being dropped from the team when recounting the incident to Chelsea’s official website.
“When they scored their second goal, I was getting a drink,” said Palmer. “I went to throw the bottle away, as you do, but I didn’t look.

“I just saw it loop dead slow and hit the gaffer. I said sorry to him and apologized properly after the game. Hopefully he won’t drop me for that!”
Palmer also spoke about his relationship with Pochettino, stating, “We get along well. I try to show him every day in training what I can do. I work hard and try to repay him because he puts a lot of faith in us.”
Since his £42.5 million ($52 million) transfer from Manchester City in the summer, Palmer has made an immediate impact at Stamford Bridge, tallying two goals and three assists in his first six Premier League appearances for Chelsea.
The England U21 international had a limited role at the Etihad Stadium under Pep Guardiola but has quickly become a regular for the Blues.
He is eager to make an even greater contribution as the season progresses, stating, “I’m loving it here at Chelsea. Every day is good, even off the pitch with the lads.
“There’s a good vibe here, and everything’s good, so I’m loving it. I came to Chelsea to try to make an impact. I’m happy I’ve done it straight away.
“Credit to the lads; they helped me settle in, but I’ve just got to try to improve every day and give more and more.”
Chelsea is preparing for another home fixture against Brentford on 28 October, with Palmer likely to retain his place in Pochettino’s lineup after his strong performance against Arsenal.
