LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – La Liga is reportedly considering punitive measures against Osasuna for chants directed at Mason Greenwood during his Getafe debut, where some fans wished harm upon him.
During the match against Osasuna on Sunday, the Manchester United loanee made a second-half appearance as a substitute and faced abuse from some of the opposing team’s supporters.
La Liga’s official match observer reportedly heard the offensive “Greenwood, die” chants, triggering a potential legal and disciplinary process.
When questioned about the incident, Osasuna coach Jogoba Arrasate stated, “The chants of ‘F*ck Osasuna’ were very objectionable, and the chants against Greenwood were also unacceptable.

“In the end, he is a player who has gone through the legal system. He is a very talented player. However, if we discuss chants, we should address all of them, not just a few.”
Greenwood played a role in the winning goal during the match, as his shot was blocked and resulted in a corner kick, from which Nemanja Maksimovic scored to secure a 3-2 victory.
This game marked Greenwood’s return to competitive football since his suspension by Manchester United in January 2022.
The club had initiated an investigation into Greenwood following his arrest on charges of attempted rape, assault, and coercive control.
However, these charges were dropped in February 2023, prompting United to encourage him to continue his career elsewhere after a lengthy international investigation.
On September 1, Greenwood joined Getafe on a season-long loan, and Jose Bordalas’s team is scheduled to face Real Sociedad in La Liga next Sunday.
