LAGOS, NIGERIA (VOICE OF NAIJA) – Arsenal Football Club winger, Bukayo Saka, has been named England’s Player of the Year for the second year in a row.

The 22-year-old born in London to Nigerian parents, was voted by fans as the standout star of the Three Lions in the 2022/2023 campaign.

Real Madrid midfielder, Jude Bellingham, and England captain, Harry Kane, placed second and third, respectively in the ballot.

The youngster who made his England debut in October 2020 scored seven goals in 10 caps over the past year for the national team, including a first career hat-trick in a 7-0 victory over North Macedonia in June.

At the 2022 Qatar World Cup, he netted three goals for the England national team. He bagged two goals in the 6-2 win against Iran in the group stage, and another in the 3-0 victory over Senegal in the round of 16.

Saka, who was surprised with the news at England’s training base, St George’s Park, to mark his 22nd birthday, was recently named PFA Young Player of the Season and included in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year.

He remains the only Arsenal player to receive the honour since the award’s inception 19 years ago.
