LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)-Enyimba defeated Lobi Stars 1-0, and Rivers United rallied to force a 2-2 draw with Remo Stars in yesterday’s MatchDay 2 matches at the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Championship Play-Off at the Mobolaji Johnson Sports Arena in Lagos.

In their debut game on Saturday, Remo Stars, who have yet to lose in the competition, twice came from behind to tie the score 2-2 with Enyimba.

Enyimba and Lobi Stars played in the first game of the day, and the ‘Peoples Elephants’ applied pressure to their opponents.

They were rewarded early in the game when their captain, Emeka Obioma, scored his 16th league goal of the season in the 16th minute.

All attempts by Lobi Stars forwards Jospeh Atule, Elijah Ani, and Wasiu Alalade to restore parity for the “Pride of Benue” proved futile. The lone goal was sufficient to award Enyimba the maximum points.

But there were more goals in the second game, where Rivers United and Remo Stars each scored two to split the points.

In the 16th minute, Rivers United’s Nyima Nwagua scored the game’s first goal. However, Remo Stars responded in the 71st minute when Lekan Dayo equalized the score.

Lekan Dayo then scored his brace to give Remo Stars the lead in the sixth minute of the second half, but the defending champions’ Lukman Adefemi responded for an equalizer.

The day’s final match, between Sunshine Stars and Bendel Insurance, was still going on as of the time of publication.
