Award-winning Nigerian filmmaker, Kunle Afolayan has announced a new movie project at work.

His younger brother, Gabriel Afolayan, will star in the movie alongside Bimbo Manuel, Sam Dede, Tana Adelana, Yemi Solade, Yemi Sodimu, Femi Branch, Adunni Ade, Funky Mallam and Dorathy Bachor of Big Brother Naija.

Young actors like Ruby Akubueze, Ojuolape Kayode, Fawaz of Ikorodu Bois and Oluwaseyi Ebiesuwa will also star in the film written by Tunde Babalola.

This is the second time Gabriel Afolayan will feature in a movie produced by his brother.

The first time the brothers worked on the same movie was in ‘Citation’ released in 2020.

Kunle announced the production of the new film in partnership with Netflix in a statement on Wednesday, 18 January, three months after the release of Anikulapo on the movie streaming platform.

Sharing photos taken with cast and crew in his office in Lagos and at KAP Film Village and Resort in Oyo State on Instagram, the 48-year-old revealed that the new production is titled IJOGBON.

“Written by award-winning Tunde Babalola, IJOGBON is a coming-of-age family adventure of four teenagers (3 boys and 1 girl) from a rural village in South-West Nigeria, who stumbles on a bag full of diamonds and conceal it, much to their regret.

“Although the location is rural, the movie – IJOGBON is set in present-day and KAP Motion Pictures has delved into local folklore to better tell this story.

“IJOGBON shows the universality of human emotions, defined by peculiar cultural backgrounds and beliefs.

“Furthermore, the film depicts what life is like for teenagers in rural parts, and their aspirations for a better life, even if it means having to Japa.”
