ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- Senator Iyorchia Ayu, the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Friday denied collecting N1 billion from any Governor as claimed by the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike.
Senator Ayu, however, warned aggrieved persons to leave his family out of the party controversy.
Governor Wike had earlier in a media chat on Friday, challenged the Ayu to refute the corruption allegations against him.
He said, “I don’t just come out and speak, let Ayu come out and say he did not collect N1billion. Let me tell you Ayu collected N100 million from a governor.
“If not for the love of this party, if we release what we have, Ayu’s children will go to him and deny him.”
But, Ayu debunked Governor Wike’s claims while responding to questions about the allegations against him.
Ayu further appealed to all aggrieved members of the party to leave his family, adding that as the father of the party he decided to be quiet for peace to reign.
He said, “I felt I should encourage reconciliation. But where it touches on my integrity, which even my own family members are brought into play.
“I appeal to aggrieved people to desist from trying to malign my character or bringing my family into party affairs.
”I never collected 1 billion from anybody. And the 100 million that was donated by one of the governors was judiciously used for the purpose that it was given”.
The PDP National Chairman also assured that the statement of the party account will be made available to party members soon.
