Edo State Government has commiserated with the family of the Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of Iyare Motors, Abel Omoruyi, who died on Friday night. Iyare Motors, a popular transport company, which operates all over the country, is headquartered in Benin City, Edo State. Four men named Salahu Yau, Aminu Salmanu, Salmanu Shafi’u and Yusuf Sale; have been sentenced to death by hanging on four counts of criminal conspiracy. The men were arraigned on four counts of criminal conspiracy, criminal trespass, unlawful assembly and culpable homicide, contrary to sections 100, 342, 97 and 221 of the Penal Code, Cap. 3, Law of Jigawa State, 2014. They, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges. A 53-year-old technician and his wife have been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command over alleged plan to extort N5million from their relatives living in the United Kingdom. The command spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed this to the News Agency of Nigeria on Saturday. A Toyota Corolla used in concealing 126 parcels of Canadian Loud – a synthetic strain of cannabis – weighing 63 kilograms, has been intercepted by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA. There was uproar at Ajao Estate area of Lagos, on Friday, when the State Government demolished no fewer than 13 residential buildings. The demolition which began on Friday, 29 April, 2023, has been described by the State authorities as illegal occupation, construction along pipeline and cited in close proximity to the Murtala International Airport, Lagos. The National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has demanded “immediate withdrawal and jettisoning” of the bill which seeks to prevent Nigerian-trained medical doctors from being issued full practicing licenses or allowed to travel abroad for five years. The body also threatened to shut down Nigeria’s health sector in the next two weeks if the Federal Government fails to address its demands including a 200 percent salary increment for doctors. Federal Government agency, NIWA, has distanced itself from the issuance of building permit or issuance of Certificate of Occupancy, C-of-O, faulting accusation by the Lagos State government linking it to the building collapse in a recent news publication.
