Four men named Salahu Yau, Aminu Salmanu, Salmanu Shafi’u and Yusuf Sale; have been sentenced to death by hanging on four counts of criminal conspiracy.

The men were arraigned on four counts of criminal conspiracy, criminal trespass, unlawful assembly and culpable homicide, contrary to sections 100, 342, 97 and 221 of the Penal Code, Cap. 3, Law of Jigawa State, 2014.

They, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

To prove the case beyond reasonable doubt, the prosecution, through its counsel, Sabo Shehu, called four witnesses and tendered extra-judicial statements and a medical report as exhibits.

The defendants testified in their own defence and called two other witnesses.

Delivering the judgment on Friday, Justice Abubakar who presided over the case at the Jigawa State High Court sitting at Ringim, convicted and sentenced all the defendants to two-year imprisonment or a fine of N10,000 for unlawful assembly.

For criminal conspiracy, the judge convicted and sentenced all the defendants to three-month imprisonment or a fine of N1,000.

He sentenced them to death by hanging for culpable homicide.

Meanwhile, Justice Abubakar also sentenced a primary school teacher, Ibrahim Isah, to life imprisonment for raping his five-year-old pupil.

Isah was found guilty of rape, an offence punishable under Section 3 of the Penal Code Law of Jigawa State 2014 (Miscellaneous Amendment) Law.

The convict was said to have lured the child into an empty classroom, where he raped her.
