ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- The former chairman of the Kaduna state chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Rev. John Joseph Hayab, has rebuked the Northern Elders Forum (NEF) for their premature discussion about the 2027 election, stating that it is too early to threaten Nigerians with such rhetoric.
In a statement released on Friday, Hayab expressed disappointment in NEF members’ assertion that the North would not support Tinubu in the next election.
“It is sad to read that some members of NEF are saying the North will not vote for Tinubu in 2027,” he remarked.
Hayab argued that such statements lack sound reasoning and timing, pointing out positive indicators such as the strengthening naira against the dollar as evidence of Tinubu’s potential.

He also cited recent successes in rescuing kidnapped school children as progress in addressing insecurity, contrasting it with previous incidents where parents endured prolonged agony and hefty ransoms.
Rather than issuing threats, Hayab urged NEF to collaborate with the government on tackling insecurity, hunger, and economic challenges. He emphasised the importance of constructive dialogue and support for the administration’s efforts to improve the country.
Hayab challenged NEF and similar groups to use their influence positively to foster unity and offer practical solutions to national problems.
He cautioned against divisive rhetoric, advocating for elder statesmen who prioritize national unity and progress over political posturing.
