LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) –A Kano State High Court has granted bail to controversial TikToker, Murja Ibrahim Kunya.
Presiding over the proceedings, Justice Nasiru Saminu set bail at N5 million requiring two reliable sureties: one being a relative and the other a Kano State resident with landed property within Kano municipality.
The request for bail submitted on behalf of Murja Kunya was a direct result of a Kano Shari’ah Court’s order, which required her to undergo a psychiatric evaluation administered by a qualified medical expert.
After giving the matter thorough consideration, Justice Nasiru Saminu concluded that it was fitting to grant bail to Murja, especially given the approaching Easter holiday and her ongoing detention that began on February 20, 2024.

Presiding over the proceedings, Justice Saminu ordered the verification of the sureties’ property by the court registry. Moreover, he imposed a restriction on Murja Kunya’s social media usage until the conclusion of the case, warning that any violation would lead to her re-arrest and subsequent appearance in court.
Additionally, Justice Saminu called for the presence of various stakeholders in the upcoming proceedings, including the defendant’s counsel, the State’s Attorney General, representatives from the Hisbah Board, and the Commissioner of Police.
The aim was to address potential amendments to the Kano State Hisbah Board law, ensuring proper adjudication in the case.
The court adjourned the proceedings to May 16, 2024, allowing for further legal deliberations and the gathering of necessary evidence in the matter.
