A Sharia court in Filin Hoki, Kano State, has remanded a popular Tiktoker, Murja Ibrahim Kunya, at a correctional facility for allegedly committing offenses contrary to Islamic teachings and threatening people on Tiktok.
Murja appeared before the court presided over by Abdullahi Halliru over two count charges bordering on threatening to attack some people and releasing inciting videos that goes contrary to the norms and teachings of Islam, and may lead others wrong.
Murja was arrested by the Police at Tahir Guests Palace Hotel while preparing to celebrate her birthday.
The Tiktoker was arrested by the Police as a result of complaints filed by the Council of Ulama.
Reacting to questions by the Police, Murja said she regretted her actions following the death of a popular TikToker some weeks ago.
She said: “Since after the death of our friend, Kamalu Aboki, I started thinking on how to stop all these. The first thing is, I no longer abuse anybody now.
“I know it is about my videos that contain dances and others that contain some abuses. For abusing people, I have stopped, God willing. For the videos, I am just dancing and I didn’t ask anybody to copy me, but I am always praying to stop these all. I regret my actions.”
Murja had reportedly been on the watch list in the state since September, 2022, after a Shariah court wrote a letter to the police commissioner to arrest her for allegedly impacting negatively on the morals of youths.
She was also invited by the Hisbah command in the state but she refused to honour the invitation.
However, when she was arraigned before the court, she pleaded not guilty to the charges that were against her.
The judge adjourned the case to 26 February, 2023, for continuation of hearing, and ordered the remand of the convict in a correctional facility.
Meanwhile, consel to Kunya, Barrister Yasir Musa, prayed the court to send her to Hisbah custody or the police instead of correctional centre, which was rejected by the council to the defendants, Barrister Lamido ABBA Soron Dinki.
