LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)-Former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Reno Omokri has called on President Bola Tinubu to direct his attention towards investigating the administration of his predecessor, Muhammadu Buhari, rather than focusing on scrutinising the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, amidst Nigeria’s ongoing economic challenges.
In a statement shared via his official social media platform on Friday, Omokri criticised the Buhari administration, labelling it as one of the most detrimental in Nigeria’s history.
He urged Tinubu to transcend political allegiances and conduct a comprehensive inquiry into the governance of the Buhari era, asserting that the true architects of Nigeria’s economic hardships resided within Buhari’s inner circle, rather than singling out Emefiele.
“If not for the restraint of APC against APC, Tinubu should have considered investigating Buhari, akin to the Zuma treatment,” Omokri remarked.
He emphasised that Emefiele should not serve as a scapegoat due to his minority status, questioning the whereabouts of Buhari’s influential associates who allegedly wielded significant influence.

Furthermore, Omokri juxtaposed the governance styles of the Jonathan and Buhari administrations, asserting that the former prioritised conscience over ego, while the latter presided over a period of unprecedented insecurity and economic decline.
Highlighting security lapses during Buhari’s tenure, Omokri underscored the perceived deterioration in safety across Northern Nigeria, attributing it to the administration’s purported negligence in addressing security threats effectively.
Omokri criticised Buhari’s economic policies, alleging a significant decline in Nigeria’s GDP during his tenure.
Drawing a comparison between the economic performance under Jonathan and Buhari, Omokri claimed that the latter’s governance resulted in substantial economic regression, citing a decline of $100 billion in GDP over eight years.
He commended Tinubu for overseeing an economic recovery since assuming office, albeit underscoring the challenges inherited from the previous administration.
Concluding his statement, Omokri cautioned against revising historical narratives to absolve Buhari of accountability, urging Nigerians to remain vigilant and avoid whitewashing the administration’s perceived failures.
