ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- Reno Omokri, a former presidential aide, has criticized Peter Obi, the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate in the previous election, for implying that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had submitted a counterfeit certificate to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Peter Obi had commented on the university certificate controversy surrounding Tinubu, emphasizing the need for honesty regarding qualifications and asserting that educational attainment is not necessarily a criterion for being a good President.
The former Governor of Anambra State had cited examples of American leaders with limited educational backgrounds.
In the 25 February presidential election, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, won a legal battle to investigate Tinubu’s academic qualifications.
Tinubu had provided certificates from the Chicago State University (CSU) to INEC to establish eligibility for the election.

A United States court had ordered CSU to release Tinubu’s academic records to support Atiku’s petition challenging the 2023 presidential election results, dismissing Tinubu’s objections. Justice Nancy Maldonado’s judgment explicitly mandated CSU to provide the academic records to Atiku.
On Monday evening, the records became available to the PDP leader, although some sections of social media users still question their authenticity.
Reno Omokri called out Peter Obi for even suggesting the possibility of a counterfeit certificate being involved.
“Peter Obi, Chicago State University, has backed Bola Tinubu’s certificate and stands by the legitimacy of his academic credentials,” he wrote on X.
“Only yesterday morning, you were on AriseTV accusing a certain leader of having a ‘fake certificate.’
“Now, answer this question: Why did you not tender your own degree from the University of Nigeria Nsukka to the INEC?”
