ABUJA, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – Nigeria’s Minister of Labour and Employment, Simon Lalong, is reportedly planning to tender his resignation letter as a Minister.
Voiceofnaija.ng gathered that the former Governor of Plateau State is yet to resign as Minister, but there are feelers from Abuja that this will be done in a matter of days.
Sources say the Minister is resigning his appointment so as to resume as a Senator following the the Court of Appeal’s affirmation of the judgment of the tribunal that recently sacked the elected members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Plateau State.
This development automatically meant that Lalong is now the winner of the Plateau South Senatorial election that held on 25 February, 2023.
After being issued the Certificate of Return by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Lalong has to now step down as Nigeria’s Minister and return to the Red Chamber to resume as a Senator.
“The Minister will very soon join the Senate. He will go there to ensure that President Bola Tinubu succeeds. The Senate is where the elders are and he wants to join them.
“A new younger person will be appointed by Mr. President as the Minister representing Plateau State to replace His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Simon Bako Lalong, the Honourable Minister of Labour and Employment as soon as he resigns.
“You know the role played by the Minister during the campaigns, he believes in Asiwaju and ready to contribute to ensure that the government succeeds,” a source close to the Minister was quoted to have told Vanguard.
