ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- The Presidency has asked Nigerians to disregard claims that President Bola Tinubu intends to install “loyalists” as Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs), to impose a one-party state on the country.
The Special Adviser to President Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, stated this in a statement titled ‘PDP, Atiku Raising False Alarm’.
He said that because of President Tinubu’s tenure as Governor, which saw enormous advancements in a number of state initiatives, his record as a democrat and an ardent supporter of the rule of law has been recognized on a global scale.
“This was responsible for the dominance of his political structure in Lagos and not for any undemocratic conduct, as Atiku Abubakar wants the public to believe”, he said.

The PDP and the spokesperson for Atiku Abubakar had questioned the independence of the judiciary and leveled accusations against Tinubu in separate statements.
The Presidency in the statement said, “The PDP, the former vice president and his spokesman have become blatantly desperate to pin their problems on President Tinubu and the judiciary, a crucial branch of the Nigerian government, following the unsatisfactory performance of certain party-elected governors at the appeals court.
“By placing the blame elsewhere, Atiku and his group have not been able to show that they underwent any introspection prior to making their serious, fabricated, careless, and reckless claims.
“We had witnessed how under his watch the PDP governor in Osun defeated the APC at the Supreme Court. Similarly, the PDP Governor in Bauchi also won his case in the Appeal Court, beating the APC.”
Onanuga said that, PDP gains are being nullified by the some courts due to the party’s flagrant disregard of the law.
