LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) A peculiar computer error deprived Spain veteran Irene Paredes of her anticipated 100th international appearance during a 7-1 victory against Switzerland in the Women’s Nations League.
Despite her milestone achievement being within reach, Spain coach Montse Tome revealed that an unforeseen computer glitch was responsible for her exclusion from the match.
“I had to adapt to the situation, and I went with the starting 11 that you saw,” Tome explained during a press conference, emphasizing that the issue was beyond their control.

Reports in Spain further elucidated the situation, indicating that the glitch had prevented the Spanish football federation from updating the squad following Paredes’ injury-related absence.
This glitch had also caused Amaiur Sarriegi to be included in the squad, despite also being sidelined due to injury.
Despite these unexpected challenges, Spain managed to secure a dominant win against Switzerland, with two-time Ballon d’Or winner Alexia Putellas contributing a brace, and Aitana Bonmati, the 2023 award holder, also making an appearance.
Spain’s upcoming challenge is set for 1 December, when they face Italy.
