LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA) – Seun Kuti, the renowned Nigerian music artist, has strongly criticized Nigerians who are expressing disapproval towards the father of the late Nigerian singer, Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, widely known as Mohbad, regarding the swift funeral arrangements for his son.
Mohbad passed away on September 12 at the age of 27.
Following his death, the artiste was buried a day after the tragic incident in Ikorodu.
The prompt burial of Mohbad without conducting thorough investigations into the circumstances surrounding his death has caused a stir on social media, with fans and internet users criticizing his father for the hasty funeral arrangements.
In a recent interview with media personality Nedu on The Honest Bunch podcast, Seun Kuti addressed the critics by suggesting that poverty played a significant role in the condemnation faced by Mohbad’s father in this situation.
Seun Kuti has raised a thought-provoking question regarding the decision to keep a deceased son’s body for an extended period.
He pointed out that if a wealthy individual had made the same choice, it would not have garnered the same level of backlash, as people would have opted to offer condolences instead.

Seun Kuti further emphasized that Nigerians are criticizing Mohbad’s father based on his financial status rather than extending support and solace during this challenging period.
He said in Pidgin, “In this whole Mohbad issue, poverty is playing a big role. People are saying na Mohbad papa kill am because he buried him early. Who wan dey look his son dead body for 2, 3 days.
“If na Otedola pikin die and he bury am overnight, wetin anybody go talk here? no be sey una go dey give am condolences visit for house?
“Instead of us to be consoling the man, we are making him evil that can kill his son. Somebody that just lost his child. You like the boy pass am na hin dem dey bully the boy all these days and you no talk anything.”
