LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) Paul Merson has advised Arsenal to consider signing Ivan Toney in the January transfer window, emphasizing the need for a quality center forward.
Toney, an England international striker, is currently serving a suspension at Brentford due to breaches of Football Association betting regulations. However, he is set to return to action at the beginning of 2024.
With Arsenal currently relying on Eddie Nketiah and Gabriel Jesus for their attacking firepower, Merson believes the Gunners should bolster their frontline.
He stated, “I’ve always said it from day one – Eddie Nketiah is not going to win you the Premier League. You need a proper centre forward.”
Merson pointed out that while Nketiah and Jesus are talented, they may not elevate Arsenal to the next level in the Premier League and Champions League.

He expressed concerns about the team’s depth and strength, especially with the demanding schedule ahead.
Merson, a former Arsenal player, suggested that Ivan Toney, who has an impressive record of 32 goals in 66 Premier League appearances, could be the solution.
He acknowledged that quality centre forwards are rare in the market, making Toney a viable option for Arsenal in January.
Arsenal may face competition from London rivals Chelsea, who are also reportedly interested in Toney following their disappointing start to the 2023-24 season.
The January transfer window could see Arsenal make a move for Toney as they seek to strengthen their attacking options for a competitive season ahead.
