ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – Amid a severe water shortage in Johannesburg, South Africa, residents are being advised to take two-minute showers and limit toilet flushing by water suppliers.
On Sunday, both Rand Water and Johannesburg Water companies cited excessive water consumption as the cause of low reservoir levels, straining the water system.

To address this issue, the companies have called on residents to reduce their water usage, including keeping showers to two minutes, minimizing toilet flushing after brief use, and restricting car washing to weekends.
Furthermore, residents are encouraged to refrain from using clean water for watering gardens and lawns and to promptly report any water leaks.
These water conservation measures come as Johannesburg grapples with annual water restrictions during South Africa’s dry season from September to March, triggered by a significant drop in Rand Water’s reservoir capacity from 52 per cent to 35 per cent.
