LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) Chelsea’s full-back, Ben Chilwell, attributes the team’s sluggish start to the season to “inexperience” but remains confident in their ability to reverse the situation.
Chelsea has secured just four points from their opening four Premier League games, including a recent 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forest at Stamford Bridge.
This setback has already left them eight points behind league leaders Manchester City. Chilwell believes that, as one of the more experienced players, he and captain Reece James must shoulder the responsibility of leading the team to higher performance levels.
He commented while on England duty, saying, “Our squad is quite young and relatively new. It lacks experience in some aspects.

“We have a new manager trying to implement his ideas, and Reece and I feel it’s our responsibility to step up as leaders within the group and provide guidance, especially during challenging times.
“Despite recent difficulties, I believe in the talent within our squad, and with our confidence and the guidance of our great manager, we can quickly turn things around.”
Despite the early-season setbacks, Chilwell has been impressed with the impact of coach Mauricio Pochettino, who took charge during the summer.
Chilwell added, “The manager’s arrival has been fantastic. We have all embraced his vision for the club, and with such a young and exciting squad, I believe the future is bright. With a bit more patience and perseverance, we will regain our form.”
After fulfilling their international duties with England, Chilwell and his Chelsea teammates will resume Premier League action with a match against Bournemouth on 17 September.
