LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – Tottenham suffered a penalty shootout loss to Fulham in the Carabao Cup after an unusual decision to give Davinson Sanchez the third spot-kick backfired following a 1-1 draw.
Richarlison put Tottenham on the scoreboard with a header after Fulham’s Kenny Tete had to leave the field to replace a boot.
This leveled the score after Micky van de Ven’s own-goal in the 19th minute had given Fulham a halftime lead. Despite missing manager Marco Silva due to a touchline ban, Fulham held strong.

With no further goals in regular time, the match moved to penalties. After both teams scored their first five, Marek Rodak saved Sanchez’s low shot, leading to Fulham’s victory.
Kenny Tete then secured the win by converting Fulham’s fifth penalty, sending Tottenham out of the competition and leaving them with the primary aim of ending their trophy drought that spans back to 2008.
Both Premier League sides exited the competition in the first round last season, but this time, substantial changes were made, with Tottenham making nine changes after entering in the second round for the first time since 2009.
