LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – Alexandra Paul, a renowned Canadian Olympic figure skater, has passed away in a car crash at the age of 31.
The unfortunate incident occurred when a truck collided with several stationary vehicles in Ontario on Tuesday, as reported by the Police.
While Alexandra Paul’s baby was also in the vehicle during the accident, the child survived and received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries in a hospital, according to BBC.
In an official statement, Skate Canada confirmed her passing and praised Paul as a “bright star both on and off the ice,” emphasizing her lasting impact on the world of figure skating.

Throughout her career, Paul achieved notable accomplishments, including a silver medal at the World Junior Figure Skating Championships in 2010, and she represented Canada at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games.
Alongside her partner and husband, Mitchell Islam, she earned multiple international medals before retiring from competitive skating in 2016.
Skate Canada expressed their sorrow over her sudden passing, highlighting her significant role within the skating community.
They praised her as not just a skilled athlete, but also a role model who exemplified qualities of resilience, determination, and sportsmanship.
