Former United States President Donald Trump was arrested on Thursday evening at Georgia’s Fulton County Jail but was later released on $200,000 bond.
After the arrest, Trump told the media it was a “very sad day for America” and accused his Democratic opponents of “election interference.”
“What has taken place here is a travesty of justice,” he said. “I did nothing wrong.”
Trump is the first US President in history to face criminal charges.
He was arrested at the Fulton County Jail after he arrived at the facility at approximately 7:30 p.m.

Trump was booked on state charges that he conspired to overturn the results of 2020 Presidential polls in Georgia.
Trump is one of the 19 defendants in the indictment that alleges racketeering by a criminal organization that tried to overturn the election results.
His various trials, if they take place next year, may coincide with the Republican presidential primary season, which begins in January, and the campaign for the November 2024 White House election.
Local authorities said Trump would be treated like any other defendant.
But the processing – with authorities collecting fingerprints and a photograph – contrasts to his three other cases, in New York, Florida and Washington, D.C., where he was processed at a courthouse during the same trip when he entered a formal plea to charges.
His photograph wasn’t required at previous bookings because he is well known.

Trump spent about 20 minutes at the jail before heading back to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport for his flight back to Bedminster, New Jersey.
According to a report by NBC News, Trump used a bail bondsman to post his $200,000 release bond. Charles Shaw of Foster Bail Bonds was paid $20,000 to post Trump’s bond.
The jail later released the first mugshot of Trump after his brief arrest. The photo is the first-ever mugshot of a former US president to be made public. Trump was booked earlier this year in three other criminal cases but did not have a mugshot taken.
Trump’s Georgia arraignment is expected the week of 5 September.
