LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- Students at Providence College in Rhode Island, US came together to raise funds for a Nigerian security guard, enabling him to reunite with his family after an 11-year separation.
The security guard, James Mogaji, works four overnight shifts per week on campus, and hasn’t seen his family in 11 years.
As reported by WCVB-TV, a group of freshmen at the college started a GoFundMe page in an effort to send their dorm’s security guard on a trip home to Nigeria.
According to the GoFundMe page, the students raised over $26,000 of the $3,500 goal.
The initiative to send the Nigerian security guard on holiday to Nigeria was spearheaded by a student identified as Brandon.

In the short clip, Brandon is seen telling the guard, who is sitting on a chair, “You told us a while ago that you wanted to see your family in Nigeria that you haven’t seen in a long time, so we came together and spread the word, and we started a GoFundMe because we take care of our own because that’s what we do at Providence College. They’ve done that for me, we’ve done that for each other, so now we’re doing it for you. You’re part of the family, so our gift to you is a trip to Nigeria.”
Mogaji gets emotional and breaks down upon hearing the news. He bows down and sobs as the students encircle him.
