LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – Spain’s captain and goal-scorer in the World Cup final, Olga Carmona, received devastating news following the match against England about the passing of her father.
Carmona secured Spain’s victory against England with her winning goal in the Women’s World Cup final on August 20.
The Spanish Football Association (RFEF) revealed that Carmona was informed of her father’s passing after the conclusion of the match.
Tragically, Carmona’s father had been battling a prolonged illness and had succumbed to it the previous Friday.

However, to ensure that Carmona could fully focus on the crucial match of her career, her family and close circle had chosen not to convey this painful news to her.
“The RFEF expresses deep sorrow in announcing the demise of Olga Carmona’s father. The player was informed of this sorrowful news after the World Cup final,” conveyed the Spanish FA through social media.
“In this moment of profound grief, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Olga and her family. Olga, you hold a special place in Spanish soccer history, and we stand by you.”
Throughout the group stage of the World Cup, Carmona’s mother and brothers accompanied her in New Zealand, standing by her side as pillars of support.
However, upon receiving the heartbreaking news, they promptly returned to Spain.
