LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)-Canada eliminated Ireland from the Women’s World Cup in Perth by defeating their rivals 2-1 after coming from behind.

Ireland entered the match with the knowledge that they would need to win after falling to Australia 1-0 in their initial match.

They quickly took the lead with a fantastic Olimpico goal from Katie McCabe, who scored immediately from a corner. Ireland’s first-ever goal in the Women’s World Cup came from the incredible strike.

The ball was knocked on from a free kick at the halfway point, and Canada’s Vanessa Gilles sent the ball over from close range.

But just before halftime, they tied the score when Megan Connolly unintentionally sent a Julia Grosso cross in her own goal.

After that, Canada started the second half with remarkable vigor. After 53 minutes, Adriana Leon was passed into the area and took a touch before scoring over goalkeeper Courtney Bronson.

The Olympic winners earned all three points with the goal, and Ireland was out of the competition. Hopefully, Canada will now defeat Australia and win the group.

Leon is the only possible candidate. With a pass that was sent into her feet and a cool finish, she scored the game-winning goal.

She constantly charged Ireland’s defense, causing the backline to get disoriented. Even though she was on the losing team, McCabe still did an outstanding job for Ireland.

We are unable to look past Connolly, which is unfortunate. After exerting so much effort in the first half, Ireland had urgently needed to lead 1-0 at the break.

However, her own goal gave Canada the advantage moving into the second half, and they went on to go past their opponents and eliminate them from the competition.

Despite being eliminated, Ireland still has a game on Monday against Nigeria, then Canada will play Australia to round off the group stage with hopes of winning the division.
