Men of the Lagos State Police have reportedly discovered and rescued a day-old baby dumped inside a sewage tank.
A statement released by the command says the baby was dumped around the Gowon estate area of the State.
Posting photos of the baby on its Twitter handle, the command wrote:
āāA day-old female baby was found in a sewage tank at about 8:30am today. Officers of Gowon Estate Division, upon being alerted, promptly arrived at the scene. The baby was taken for immediate medical attention at a health center and is doing well.”
The report has sparked outrage on social media, with some thankful the child was found alive while others blamed the mother.

A netizen said: “Ahh, while so many are looking for the fruits of the womb, others are throwing theirs away. She should have even put the baby in a safe place. Thank God she is alive. I pray she will be adopted by wonderful parents.”
Another netizen wrote: “There is no love like mothers love but its them that dump babies in gutter, refuse site and the likes for snakes and other animals to feast on, babies that can only cry. Same women that won’t help in paying children bills that they carried for nine months. Lol. Men, lot of you don’t know women.”
“Thank you Jesus keeping this baby alive. He/she will grow strong and be great in Jesus name. Amen,” one user prayed.
Another one lay curses on the baby’s parent and said: “Life go hard for your parentā¦no be me curse them. Because they should know the responsibility of bringing a Life into this harsh worldā¦when them dey Knack themselves e sweet them.”
A user also commented: “When life is valueless then we are no different from animal in the wild.”
