LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- A Magistrate Court sitting in Yenagoa has ordered the remand of a 30-year-old man, Kingsley Solomon, for allegedly stealing a two-month-old baby at Azikoro Town in Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
Solomon was arraigned by the Bayelsa State Police Command before Magistrate Sarah B. I. Avoh on two counts bothering on assault and child stealing.
The prosecution alleged that Solomon on 23 June, at IYC Road, Azikoro Town, gave one Joy Lucky a blow on the left side of her eyes with the intent to steal her child and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 282 of the Criminal Code Law, Cap C14, laws of Bayelsa State 2006.

The defendant, Solomon on 24 June at IYC Road, Azikoro Town in Yenagoa, is also alleged to have stolen one baby success Alfred aged two months old, a baby of Joy Lucky and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 298 (a) of Criminal Code Law, Cap C14, laws of Bayelsa State 2006.
The Police information report further revealed that Solomon who claimed to have had an affair with Joy during her early pregnancy at a brothel, is not the rightful father of Success Alfred.
Solomon who pleaded not guilty was ordered a remand of at least 15 days in the Nigeria Correctional Centre, Okaka, before the next Magistrate Court appearance on 18, July.
Magistrate Avoh however, noted that the defendant could either be bailed by a permanent secretary under a salary structure of N500,000 or be remanded to the correctional facility.
The case was adjourned till 18 July for hearing.
