Lagos Man In Court For Swindling Car Buyer Of N9m

LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- Lagos State Police Command has arraigned one Nnanna Nwancho, for allegedly stealing N9m from one Emeka Ifekume under the pretense of selling a car to him.

The 22-year-old defendant was brought before Magistrate Patrick Nwaka at the Yaba Magistrates’ court, Lagos, on three counts-charge bordering on stealing.

The prosecutor, Chekube Okeh, told the court that Nwancho obtained N9m from Ifekume under the pretence of selling a Toyota Prado Jeep to him and stopped answering his phone after the money was paid into his account.

According to Chekwube, the offences contravened Sections 411, 314 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The charges read in part, “That you, Nnanna Nwancho, and others at large, on March 30, 2023, around 11am, at No. 2, Akinola Cole Street, off Adeniyi Jones, Ikeja, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did by false pretence obtained from one Emeka Ifekume N9m, paid into your Access Bank Account No. 0767088901, under the pretence of selling a Toyota Prado Jeep to him, which you know to be false and which you converted to your own personal use, and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 314 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.”

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the count charges preferred against him.

Following his not-guilty plea, the Magistrate admitted him to bail in the sum of N1m with two responsible sureties in like sum.

He also adjourned the case till 13 July, 2023, for mention.
