ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), has announced its intention to confer first-degree certificates upon 12,526 students during its 52nd Convocation Ceremony, scheduled to take place on May 10th and 11th at the Nsukka Campus.
During a press briefing held at the University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus on Tuesday, the Vice-Chancellor Prof. Charles Igwe revealed this significant milestone, noting an increase of 1,082 graduates compared to the 51st Convocation.
Among the 12,526 graduates, 252 achieved First Class Honours, while 4,834 attained Second Class Honours (Upper Division), 5,883 Second Class Honours (Lower Division), and 747 Third Class Honours. Additionally, 25 students received Pass degrees, while 746 were unclassified.
The convocation ceremony will also see the awarding of 1,438 Postgraduate Degrees and Diplomas, comprising 412 Doctorate Degrees, 961 Master’s Degrees, and 75 Postgraduate Diplomas of the University of Nigeria.

Prof. Igwe outlined the convocation’s schedule, with first-degree and diploma awards slated for May 10th at the Nsukka campus, while higher degree awards, postgraduate diplomas, and honorary doctorate degrees will be conferred on May 11th.
The convocation lecture, scheduled for May 9th, will feature Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, speaking on the topic, “Why Nigerian Universities Should Lead the Way to a New Country,” chaired by former Military Governor of old Imo State, General Ike Nwachukwu (Rtd).
Reflecting on his tenure, Prof. Igwe highlighted the University’s achievements, including the construction of new infrastructure such as the Department of Mass Communication and Senate buildings.
He also noted improvements in academic output, staff promotions, the introduction of new programs, and efforts toward quality assurance and industrial harmony.
In adherence to tradition, the university will elevate ten deserving retired professors to the distinguished status of Professor Emeritus.
Prof. Igwe expressed gratitude to the university community for their support, emphasizing his commitment to their continued welfare.
Igwe whose tenure would be ending by 2024, said the 52nd Convocation ceremony would be his last as the vice chancellor of the university, having assumed office on June 10, 2019.
